When this tool is useful

Inspect the basic properties that determine how an image behaves. The right choice depends on what is actually wrong with the image. If the dimensions are correct but the file is too heavy, start with compression. If the image is physically larger than the destination needs, resizing can remove unnecessary pixels. If another system requires a different file type, conversion is the appropriate step.

How it works

The core operation runs in your browser using the selected file and the browser's image and Canvas capabilities. The generated result is offered as a local download. This design is intended to avoid a server-side image upload for the core operation.

Keep your original. A converted or compressed copy is best treated as a delivery version. Keep the original if you may need to edit or export it again later.

Common questions

What is the difference between dimensions and file size?

Dimensions describe the number of pixels, such as 1600 × 1200. File size describes how much storage the encoded file uses, such as 1.8 MB.

Why can two images with the same dimensions have different file sizes?

Compression, format, image detail, metadata and quality settings can all change file size even when the pixel dimensions are identical.

Does file size tell me image quality?

Not by itself. A small file can look good and a large file can look poor. Dimensions, format, compression and visual detail all matter.
